The Lobi Stars vice chairman has commended Federation Cup organisers for honouring him
Former Nigeria international and Lobi Stars supremo, Dominic Iorfa, has expressed satisfaction with his achievements in the history of Federation Cup. Iorfa has been nominated as one of the legends that will be honoured at the finals of the Federation Cup between Enyimba and Warri Wolves on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Iorfa, who played in two finals of the former Challenge Cup with the legendary BCC Lions (1985) as well as Abiola Babes (1986) and won the 2003 Coca-Cola FA Cup, as an administrator of Lobi Stars, is one of the famous stars to be honoured during the 2013 finals, on Sunday.
Interestingly, Iorfa added the coaching role in 2012 and led Lobi to the finals, only to lose 1-2 to Heartland.
“I’m the only Nigerian who reached the finals in different roles as a player, administrator and coach. Back in the 80s, I played for legendary sides like BCC Lions and Abiola Babes.
“I want to thank God, my family and the clubs I represented in this competition. It’s the dream of every player to play in the Cup final,” he said.
Iorfa equally applauded the organisers for considering his achievements in the competition.
“To be sincere several Nigerians have excelled in this competition. I commend the organisers for selecting me,” Iorfa said.
As club supremo, Iorfa led Lobi to the last four in 2009, but lost to Sharks in the semi-finals, and defeated Bayelsa United 3-1 to win the bronze medal. Lobi lost 0-1 to Enyimba in the semi-finals of the 2013 edition.
Iorfa joined Queens Park Rangers from Belgian side, Royal Antwerp, in 1990 and entered the record books as the first player developed from the Nigerian league to play in England’s Old Division One League.
In 1992, Iorfa also made history as the first African to play in Turkey when he moved to Galatasaray from QPR.
