The Frenchman reportedly refused to play for the club's first three matches of the season following a rejected £10 million bid from Arsenal and has been disciplined
Yohan Cabaye was punished for missing the first three games of the season, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has revealed.
Cabaye recently apologised to the fans for failing to take part against Manchester City, West Ham and Morecambe after reportedly “having his head turned” by Arsenal’s failed £10 million summer bid, and played a major role in the Magpies’ 2-1 away win over Aston Villa in his first start of the season.
Pardew admitted to having taken disciplinary action against the France international but insists he is now hoping they can put the matter behind them.
“He has been disciplined for his action,” he told the North East Chronicle. “He has accepted it and we move on. It was accepted in good faith.
“His performance last week spoke a thousand words. It is about performances. Newcastle fans want to see him pull on the shirt and perform.”
Pardew is also hoping to see striker Papiss Cisse end his run of 10 club games without a goal when they take on Hull City this weekend, admitting his place in the team may come under threat should this barren streak continue.
“That is a concern,” the Magpies boss added. “We have worked hard to find avenues for him to find that goal.
“Hopefully we can create more opportunities. But it will be tough for him if he doesn't get it. We have competition for places.”
Pardew also revealed he has been impressed by Hull’s start to the season, with the Tigers collecting four points from their opening four games under former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce.
“I think all the promoted clubs have done well and have bought well,” he continued.
“What Steve done was unbelievable and nobody fancied them. They are ahead of schedule.”
