Djukic: We are emotionally weak

The Serbian coach insists he and his players must rally together to improve their fortunes following a dismal 3-0 defeat at home to Swansea

Miroslav Djukic believes Valencia are currently "emotionally weak" after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Swansea in the Europa League on Thursday.

Goals from Wilfried Bony, Michu and Jonathan de Guzman rounded off a comfortable win for the Welsh side after Adil Rami had been sent off early on, and Djukic admits there will be no quick fix to his side's problems following a run of four successive defeats.

"The team went out with the intention of 'washing their faces', but in the 10th minute we're left with a man less and when these things happen it gets difficult," he told reporters after the match. "The team is very weak emotionally. 

"At the moment, you can see the team is strong neither offensively or defensively and it's a very tough time. I feel capable of reversing the situation. We have no choice but to keep working and keep fighting because no-one has a magic wand to fix this."

Los Che have now conceded three goals in each of their last four games, scoring just four times overall, but Djukic insists he will not pin the blame on his players.

"I'm in the same boat. I can't say the team is bad and I am good. I understand perfectly that the fans cannot be happy with us, that they whistle and shout at us," he said.

"We only fear we're not creating a good image. I feel a great sadness because these are very good players and we're not getting things done well."

Club captain Ever Banega believes the early goal and red card made life almost impossible at the Mestalla on Thursday but stressed the importance of looking forward.

 "We're in a bad moment and the situation is difficult, but we have to keep looking forward," said the Argentine.

"We started well, but the sending off and above all Swansea's first goal left us with lots of problems."

Meanwhile, Sergio Canales urged his side to restore some pride by beating Sevilla in their next game after enduring a "painful" loss to the Swans.

"At the moment, we're in a tunnel, and we have to get ourselves out," he was quoted as saying by Marca.

"The first thing we have to do is try to lift our heads and recover our pride in order to beat Sevilla. It was a very painful defeat."
