BOXING:Fury's dad could make day release for Haye bout.

The father of Tyson Fury has applied for day release from prison in order to watch his son's blockbuster fight with David Haye on September 28.

John Fury was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2011 for gouging out a man's eye during a fight at a car auction.

However, after good behaviour in prison, Fury Sr was granted several one-day passes - one of which he has applied for on the day of his son's fight with Haye - according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Fury Jr and Haye go toe-to-toe in Manchester and, despite admitting his dad had cast doubt over his future in professional boxing, the undefeated heavyweight wants nothing more than having him ringside.

"My dad knows what he did was wrong," Fury Jr told the Daily Mail. "Do the crime, pay the time. But he had only been in trouble once before, when he was 17.

"Hard man though he is, he has no other record of violence. Four years is a long time for a father and son with a bond like ours to be separated and I want to make him proud of me.

"He didn't think I would make it in the ring. But I was determined to prove him wrong.

"It will be great to have my dad back with me. I speak to him almost every day on the phone.

"I visit him regularly. Lately the whole family has been getting together on these odd days when he is allowed out to begin preparing for his return to the community. But to have him at ringside for the biggest fight of my life... amazing."

Fury Jr wants the fight to start no later than 10.30pm in order to allow his father time to safely report back in prison before his curfew.
