Andre Villas-Boas says that Tottenham Hotspur will make even more signings before the close of the transfer window, with Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Vlad Chiriches all understood to be on the verge of arriving.
The Spurs boss denied that any deal for Chelsea's Juan Mata was possible, however, and echoed calls that the transfer window should be closed for individual domestic leagues as soon as they start.
With Spurs set to receive a world-record fee of close to €100m for Gareth Bale, they could yet spend another €53m in addition to the €68m already sent out in deals for Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue.
Lamela looks set to join from Roma for €30m and Chiriches from Steaua Bucharest for €8m. Ajax, meanwhile, are holding out for over €15m for Eriksen.
"I have told you that we will continue restrengthening the squad so we are looking at different positions to make us stronger," Villas-Boas said. "Not only those players [Lamela and Eriksen], others as well. In the next couple of days we will have further news and i think we will see further additions at Tottenham."
Villas-Boas, however, thinks it highly unlikely that a deal for Mata is possible
"First, Chelsea wouldn't sell to Tottenham in any way or form, as they think that we are title contenders. Mata is a great, great player - player of the season last season - very, very important player for Chelsea.
"They're just not going to strengthen another team that, in their opinion, are rivals for the title."
Villas-Boas also said he agreed that the window should be closed as soon as domestic seasons start, but felt it could be done on specific cases rather than as a blanket rule.
"I told this in the past. I think, to be fair, the Premier League has proposed this to Uefa but it would cause many disruptions because there were leagues that were OK with it and others that weren't.
"I think you have seen recently from most of the managers a great will for it to happen.
I would vote yes. I don't think it disturbs preparations to the extent that you know somebody is going to be involved in a transfer or you want to bring somebody, you know the squad of the players that you have available, so you have to go forward the same way but I think it can mess with players' heads to some extent and maybe that's why Jan confirmed it.
"I think it would be good for each league the market would finish for that league in the first day of the season, meaning from any other league you couldn't buy from that league as the league already start.
"I think that is something that is easily applicable. I see no reasons why it couldn't happen."
