Bale fails to turn up to Tottenham training

Tottenham star Gareth Bale has failed to report to training as he waits for his €100 million transfer to Real Madrid.

The Welshman was due at the club's Enfield training base on Tuesday following a weekend break in Marbella.

Spurs insist they are yet to reach an agreement for Bale’s world record transfer to Real Madrid and claim to have received a separate offer, with Manchester United strongly linked with the attacker.

Tottenham have agreed to accept Madrid's €100m offer but are waiting to sign replacement players before formally sanctioning the 24-year-old’s departure, with Roma winger Erik Lamela due in London on Tuesday ahead of a club record €35m move to White Hart Lane.

Bale's departure has also been delayed by Spurs' failed bid for Willian last week, as the Brazilian opted to join Chelsea despite completing a medical at the north London club.

Neither Bale or Real Madrid anticipated that the saga would drag on for so long and the player expected the transfer to be confirmed by Tuesday.

The Spanish giants were so confident of landing the former Southampton man last week that they erected a stage at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of his presentation to the supporters.

Los Blancos also started selling replica shirts bearing Bale’s name following a meeting last Wednesday between their president Florentino Perez and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

But Tottenham were infuriated by Madrid's perceived arrogance and have delayed the move, much to Bale’s annoyance with less than a week remaining of the transfer window.

Bale has agreed a six-year contract to move to Madrid to become Perez’s latest 'Galactico' signing after missing out to Barcelona in the race for Brazilian star Neymar at the start of the summer.

Spurs had discussed a player-exchange deal but will accept an €100m offer to be paid in three installments, eclipsing the €94m paid to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009
